the doshas: explained
Okay so you’ve been hearing about Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. What do they mean? Why are they important?
Vata, Pitta, and Kapha are the three doshas in Ayurvedic teachings. What is a dosha? A dosha is simply a mix of two of the five elements- space, air, water, fire and earth. In Ayurveda, we use doshas instead of elements because we see that there are always two elements that like to be in pairs. Doshas are a cornerstone of Ayurveda- they are a way of us to understand ourselves not just physically, but emotionally, and mentally. Vata is the dosha that is made up of space and air. Pitta is comprised of fire and water, and Kapha is made up of water and earth. In all of nature, we see these doshas. Each plant, animal, and human has its unique mix of doshas.
