DAILY DETOX PROTOCOLS
AS TAUGHT BY THE VEDIC TEXTS
In Ayurveda, there are certain protocol that we follow daily to maintain a clear and efficient channel within the body, mind, and spirit. When starting to integrate Ayurveda into your life, I recommend choosing a few of these protocol that speak to you and you think you could maintain on a pretty regular basis. Add more as your time and schedule allows.
Drink Water in the Morning: warm water with electrolytes should be the first thing that enters your body in the morning. This helps stimulate and flush the kidneys & GI tract and aids in a healthy bowel movement.
Tongue Scraping: gently glide a tongue scraper from the back of your tongue to the tip and 7-10 times. This removes accumulated toxins that have been cleansed throughout the night and stimulates your digestive system.
Oil Pulling: gargle with sesame oil (or coconut) for a few minutes. Then spit it out in the trash, scrape tongue. and gargle with warm salt water. This aids in oral hygiene and strengthens the teeth, gums, and reduces wrinkling of cheeks.
Neti Pot: to clear the sinuses and keep Kapha balanced, use a net pot with warm salt water. This can also help prevent illnesses in the sinuses.
Nasya (nasal oiling): put 3-5 drops of Super Nasya oil, sesame oil, or ghee into the nostrils each morning. Wait 45 minutes-2 hours after Neti Pot.
Abhyanga: self-oil massage; by lubricating our skin with a layer or oil, we nourish our skin and internal organs with the properties of that oil. This helps to maintain hydration, as well as relax the body and mind. You can also oil the head the night before or 20 minutes before showering. When doing Abhyanga, it is important to let the oil soak in, but you can shower off once the oil has soaked for at least 5 minutes.
Garshana: before applying Abhyanga, use a raw silk glove or soft bristle body brush to rub along your whole body gently. This helps get the lymph moving and draining.
NOTE* These are just 7 practices I’m listing! There are so many more daily detox routines that can be used for different conditions, seasons, etc.
